FREE CONCERT FOR STUDENTS - Thursday, February 7, 8:00,
Principal winds Robin May, Karla Ekholm, and Alicia Telford display their virtuosic talents joining Maestro Kohl on the clarinet in W. A. Mozart’s joyous Sinfonia Concertante for oboe, clarinet, bassoon and french horn and orchestra. With this work Mozart transforms the Baroque concerto grosso and into a Classical period and style masterpiece.
Bela Bartok’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste was a ground breaking work, breathtaking in its beauty and imaginative use of colors in rendering the gypsy flair in music. Bartok’s work is a 20th Century take on an approach similar to the concerto grosso in which the strings have evolved to become equal partners with the solo instruments.
Also: Holst’s St. Paul’s Suite, Mahler’s Adagietto from the 5th Symphony and Sibelius’s Rakastava
