National Treasure SLIDE HAMPTON

Oakland, CA - March 10, 2008 SLIDE HAMPTON, 2-time Grammy winner, NEA
Jazz Master and Living Jazz Legend will present 2 Interactive
Presentations at the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music, 1616 Franklin
St., Oakland, CA., 7pm, April 7 & 8, 2008. Slide Hampton appears as part
of the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music's National Treasure Series.
Those in attendance will have the rare opportunity to listen to and
learn about America's National Treasure from a National Treasure. Both
presentations will occur in the intimate Ed Kelly Recital Hall of the
Oakland Public Conservatory of Music. The event is open to ALL lovers of
Jazz. musicians, especially trombonists, should come prepared to
listen, and to play as Mr. Hampton shares his insights and perspectives
on Jazz performance.
COST: Adults: $20/advance; $25/door
$10 seniors/students (with ID)

Mr. Hampton's appearance is a part of the National Treasures Series of
the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music. The Series seeks to uphold and
illuminate House Congressional Resolution 57. In 1987, the 100th
Congress of the United States passed H. Con. Res. 57. "Now, therefore be
it Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring),
that it is the sense of the Congress that jazz is hereby designated as a
rare and valuable national American treasure to which we should devote
our attention, support and resources to make certain it is preserved,
understood and promulgated."

About Slide Hampton
Slide Hampton's distinguished career spans decades in the evolution of
jazz. At the age of 12 he was already touring the Midwest with the
Indianappolis-based Hampton band, led by his father and comprised of
other members of his family. By 1952, at the age of 20, he was
performing at Carnegie Hall....
