The Count Basie Orchestra, an 18-member big band directed by Bill Hughes, and featuring local favorite, Jamie Davis, on vocals, will be performing on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, located at 1801 Lacassie Avenue in Walnut Creek, CA. Produced by Unity Music and in collaboration with the Generations in Jazz Foundation, all proceeds from the evening will go towards helping music students in need. The Count Basie Orchestra has played in concert tours across the world, recording with jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, and Frank Sinatra, and has won 17 Grammy and numerous Downbeat awards. The deep baritone voice of Jamie Davis has been paired with such legendary talent as Patty Austen, Tony Bennett, George Benson, the Count Basie Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney, Jimmy Cobbs, and Billy Cobham. He has toured at home and abroad, and also performs for both public and private events in the United States and Europe. Davis is currently a recording artist on the Unity Music Record Label.
