The world famous Count Basie Orchestra to perform a benefit concert
for Generations in Jazz! Kids under 18 go free (with a paying adult
and student ID).
The Count Basie Orchestra, an 18-member big band directed by Bill
Hughes, and featuring local favorite, Jamie Davis, on vocals, will be
performing on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Walnut Creek
Presbyterian Church, located at 1801 Lacassie Avenue in Walnut Creek,
CA. Produced by Unity Music and in collaboration with the Generations
in Jazz Foundation, all proceeds from the evening will go towards
helping music students in need. The Count Basie Orchestra has played
in concert tours across the world, recording with jazz greats such as
Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, and Frank
Sinatra, and has won 17 Grammy and numerous Downbeat awards. The deep
baritone voice of Jamie Davis has been paired with such legendary
talent as Patty Austen, Tony Bennett, George Benson, the Count Basie
Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney, Jimmy Cobbs, and Billy Cobham. He has
toured at home and abroad, and also performs for both public and
private events in the United States and Europe. Davis is currently a
recording artist on the Unity Music Record Label.
